Serving over 20,000 learners across the main campus and nine satellite sites, Newcastle College is one of the largest providers of skills and training in the UK, and one of the largest providers of Higher Education courses in the FE sector. Newcastle College had previously experienced problems with unusable social media data, giving them little visibility over their marketing and customer service efforts – and making social media management time-consuming and not as effective as it could be. There was also significant room for improvement around content and channel strategies. Historically, it was difficult to measure the effectiveness of social media content, with the team unable to determine whether content was as engaging or informative as it could have been – a trend reflected across the FE sector as a whole.
So, the decision was taken that a complete overhaul of social media activity was needed. The Marketing team conducted a thorough review and identified that a new direction was needed for social media, encompassing platforms, content and channel changes. They wanted to understand what rich, warm, informative content generated most engagement across each of their social channels.
The final piece in the jigsaw was a social media management platform that would give them the visibility to understand what content works, where, and why.
