The SKA, or Square Kilometre Array will be a revolutionary new radio telescope with 50 times the sensitivity and 10,000 times the survey speed of the best current-day telescopes. It will be used by scientists to address fundamental unanswered questions about the Universe. Building the SKA is a huge project involving teams in 20 countries; it is being coordinated by the SKA Organisation, which has its headquarters at Jodrell Bank Observatory near Manchester in the UK.

Mathieu Isidro is the deputy communications and outreach manager at the SKA Organisation and is also responsible for the social media activity. He uses channels such as Facebook, Twitter and Google+ to help raise general awareness of the project and to engage with stakeholders and other interested parties. Mathieu is also responsible for coordinating the input into the SKA social channels from all the participating organisations around the world.

Social Needs

Manage contributions from around the world

Team members from across the globe wanted to share updates about what their organisations have been doing as part of the project ,and it is more time efficient if they can post directly to the SKA Twitter account and other channels rather than sending content to their head office to post.

Publish relevant content to the right audiences

SKA uses channels such as Facebook, Twitter and Google+ to help raise general awareness of the project and to engage with stakeholders and other interested parties.

Protection from social crisis

Using the moderation tools, The SKA are protected from unverified posts and social crisis.

UK Based Support

The SKA Communications team highly values the close contact they have with the highly responsive, UK based SocialSignIn Support team.

Target key influencers

There are a number of different audiences for the project, from the general public to stakeholders and experts. Using SocialSignIn has allowed SKA to ensure they are engaging with their key influencers.
